Description

Teak Oil – Hardwood Furniture & Exterior Wood Care

Teak Oil is a penetrating blend of natural oils and resins formulated to nourish dense hardwoods, enrich grain and leave a low-sheen, water-repellent finish. Ideal for garden furniture, doors, window boards and other exterior or interior hardwood joinery, it helps guard against drying and weathering while maintaining a natural look and feel.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Penetrating Protection: Feeds hardwoods (e.g., teak, iroko, acacia, oak) to reduce cracking and checking.
  • Water-Repellent Satin: Leaves a natural, low-sheen finish that sheds light showers.
  • Enhances Grain: Deepens colour and highlights figure without a plastic film.
  • Easy to Maintain: Simple wipe-on refresher coats—no stripping required.
  • Versatile Use: Suitable for exterior garden furniture and interior hardwood trim.

Typical Uses

  • Garden tables, chairs, benches and loungers
  • Exterior doors, thresholds and hardwood trims
  • Interior hardwood worktops, shelves and window boards (non-food prep)
  • Boat brightwork in sheltered areas (maintenance required)

Surface Preparation

  1. Clean and allow wood to dry. Remove grey weathering, mildew and contaminants.
  2. Sand evenly (finish P180–P240); remove all dust. Strip old varnish/paint before oiling.
  3. Degrease oily tropical hardwoods with suitable solvent; test on an off-cut for colour.

Application

  1. Stir well. Apply a thin coat with a lint-free cloth or brush along the grain.
  2. Allow 10–20 minutes to penetrate, then wipe off all excess to avoid a sticky surface.
  3. Allow to dry (typically 6–12 hours, longer in cool/humid conditions). De-nib lightly if required.
  4. Apply 2–3 coats initially; add extra on very porous or weathered timber.

Aftercare & Maintenance

  • For exterior items, re-oil seasonally or when the surface looks dry and water no longer beads.
  • Clean with mild detergent; avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive pads.
  • Expect natural colour change in sunlight; periodic cleaning and oiling will refresh appearance.

Limitations & Safety

  • Not a heavy film or high-build varnish; regular maintenance is required outdoors.
  • May deepen/amber pale timbers—always test first.
  • Not recommended for food-contact surfaces unless specifically approved.
  • Oily rag safety: Oil-soaked cloths can self-heat—lay flat to dry outdoors or submerge in water before disposal.

Teak Oil provides a warm, natural satin finish that’s quick to apply and simple to maintain—perfect for keeping hardwood furniture and joinery looking their best.
