Structural R4-Class, Rapid-Setting Cementitious Mortar for Concrete Repair and Smoothing

Mapei Planitop Smooth & Repair R4 is a one-component, fibre-reinforced, shrinkage-compensated, thixotropic cementitious mortar designed for structural repairs and smoothing of concrete surfaces. Suitable for both internal and external applications, it can be applied in a single layer from 3 to 40 mm thick, making it ideal for repairing and levelling horizontal, vertical, and overhead concrete surfaces. Its rapid-setting properties and excellent adhesion ensure durable repairs, even in structures exposed to the open air and in permanent contact with water.

• Packaging: 25 kg vacuum-packed polyethylene bags.

Application Instructions

1. Surface Preparation: Ensure the substrate is sound, clean, and free from dust, grease, oil, and loose particles. Roughen smooth surfaces and saturate the substrate with water, removing any excess before application.
2. Mixing: Pour 16.5–17.5 parts of clean water into a container and gradually add 100 parts of Planitop Smooth & Repair R4 while mixing continuously with a mechanical mixer until a homogeneous, lump-free mixture is obtained.
3. Application: Apply the mortar using a trowel in a single layer from 3 to 40 mm thick. For thicker applications, additional layers can be applied after the previous one has set.
4. Finishing: Finish the surface with a trowel or sponge float approximately 20 minutes after application.
5. Protection: Protect the applied mortar from rapid drying due to wind or direct sunlight.

Limitations

• Do not add water to the mix once it has started to set.
• Do not add cement or other additives to the product.
• Do not apply on smooth substrates; roughen surfaces beforehand.
• Do not apply on dry substrates; ensure the substrate is saturated with water (SSD condition).
• Do not use for anchoring elements that require precise positioning; use suitable anchoring products instead.
• Do not apply at temperatures below +5°C or above +35°C.

Cleaning of Tools

Clean all tools and equipment with water immediately after use, before the product hardens.
